Station owner screens rocks and fertiliser materials
Holbrook, NSW
Little Billabong Station began screening soil, fertiliser materials and river stones directly on the property using a FlipScreen screening bucket. The system allowed operators to prepare clean fertiliser blends and remove unwanted rock from paddock soil in a single pass, improving soil preparation while eliminating the need to transport material off the station for processing.
Little Billabong Station
Managing soil and fertiliser materials across a large working station often involves handling mixed natural material containing rocks, debris and uneven soil. At Little Billabong Station near Holbrook, preparing paddocks for fertiliser spreading and pasture improvement meant dealing with river stones and coarse material that could interfere with equipment or reduce soil quality. Traditionally, this required time-consuming manual clearing or transporting material to external facilities for processing. The station owners wanted a practical way to process soil and fertiliser material directly on the property. The solution needed to operate with existing machinery and handle a variety of natural materials found across paddocks, creek beds and stock routes.
Challenge
Little Billabong Station introduced a FlipScreen E130 screening bucket to work alongside its loader during property maintenance and soil preparation tasks. Material collected from paddocks and work areas could be placed into the bucket where the rotating drum screened out larger river stones and debris. The finer soil and fertiliser material passed through the mesh, producing a cleaner blend suitable for spreading or land conditioning. By swapping mesh sizes, operators could also produce different grades of screened soil for use around infrastructure, laneways or garden areas around the homestead.
Solution
Using the FlipScreen allowed the station to manage soil resources more effectively without relying on external processing or expensive transport. Rocks removed from paddock soil were repurposed for drainage works and erosion control around creek crossings, while screened soil and fertiliser blends were applied directly to pasture improvement projects. The system also reduced wear on farm equipment by removing stones that could damage spreaders or cultivation gear. With the ability to process materials anywhere on the property, the station improved efficiency across multiple farm tasks while making better use of the natural resources already available onsite.
